Your Notice of Assessment (NoA) is basically a summary of your tax return after it’s been lodged. It shows:
- your taxable income,
- the amount of tax you need to pay based on your taxable income,
- the amount of tax you’ve already paid (if any), and
- the net amount payable or refundable after your tax return has been processed.
If you’ve paid more tax than you needed to, it will show a net refund amount. If you haven’t paid enough tax through the year, it will show the additional amount of tax payable.
NoA’s are only issued to individuals – companies, trusts and other structures don’t get issued one. And Wingr doesn’t get sent a copy of your NoA either – the ATO makes it available to you electronically.
If you’re looking for your current (or past) NoA’s, you can find them in ATO Online Services. You can access this via the myGov app, or my.gov.au.
The ATO will generally send you a text message once your return has been processed to confirm your NoA is available online. If you haven’t received these notifications, you may need to check that you have notifications turned on and/or make sure your mobile number is correct.
