Some notes before you get started:
- The Trustee controls the trust and makes decisions to manage the trust funds/assets. A trustee does not receive distributions from the trust.
- The Beneficiary is eligible to receive distributions from the trust but does not make decisions or control the assets.
- The Settlor is a person who helps you establish the trust and after that has no further involvement. The settlor should be someone who will never become a trustee or beneficiary in the future (so avoid anyone you think you might want to bring into the trust at a later date such as spouse, family, children etc)
- The Appointor has the ability to add or remove trustees from your trust, so should be someone you can trust implicitly! Unlike the Settlor, they can also be a beneficiary or trustee of the trust.
