The ATO determines the due date for your tax return based on a number of factors, including:
- are you completing your own tax return;
- have you appointed a tax agent to complete your return prior to 31 October;
- did you lodge your previous years’ tax returns on time;
- are you a larger organisation that owed tax in the previous year;
- what type of entity is lodging (company, trust, partnership etc);
You can log into the ATO online services to see what lodgements you have outstanding and what the lodgement due date is. Keep in mind, the very latest you can lodge most returns is 15th May (so 10-11 months after the end of the financial year) but you must do this through a Tax Agent.
When do I have to pay my tax?
The due date for the payment of your tax can vary so the best way to know for sure is to log into the ATO Online Services and it will show you any amounts payable as well as the due dates. To log in, see
